ROLLER SHADE INSTALLATION GUIDE

These instructions provide general guidance for installing roller and solar shades. Brackets and operating systems can vary. Always follow any product-specific instructions included with your shade.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Carefully unpack the shade and confirm that you have received:

• The correct shade
• Left and right mounting brackets
• Mounting screws or supplied fasteners
• Valance, cassette, or fascia components, if ordered
• Chain-tension device, if applicable
• Motorized controls or charger, if applicable

Do not discard the packaging until the shade has been installed and tested.

TOOLS YOU MAY NEED

• Steel measuring tape
• Pencil
• Level
• Drill and appropriate drill bits
• Screwdriver
• Appropriate mounting fasteners
• Step ladder
• A second person for wide or heavy shades

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

• Confirm that no electrical wiring, plumbing, or other concealed hazards are behind the mounting surface before drilling.
• Use fasteners appropriate for the mounting surface. The supplied screws may not be suitable for every surface.
• Mount wide or heavy shades into wood framing or another secure structural surface whenever possible.
• Use a stable ladder and follow all ladder safety instructions.
• Two people should install wide, heavy, or motorized shades.
• Contact a qualified installer if you are uncertain whether the mounting surface can safely support the shade.

IDENTIFY THE BRACKETS

Before drilling, identify the control or motor end of the shade and the corresponding bracket. The opposite end normally uses an idler or spring-loaded pin.

Bracket designs vary. Do not force either end of the shade into a bracket. Confirm that the brackets are positioned on the correct sides and facing the correct direction.

INSIDE-MOUNT INSTALLATION

An inside mount is installed within the window opening.

  1. Hold the brackets inside the window opening near each end.

  2. Position both brackets at the same depth and height.

  3. Make sure the shade, fabric roll, valance, and controls will clear the glass, trim, handles, locks, and other obstructions.

  4. Use a level to confirm that the brackets are aligned.

  5. Mark the mounting holes with a pencil.

  6. Drill pilot holes when appropriate for the mounting surface.

  7. Secure both brackets firmly.

  8. Install the shade into the brackets according to the supplied bracket design.

  9. Confirm that both ends are completely seated and locked before releasing the shade.

  10. Install the valance, cassette, or fascia, if ordered.

OUTSIDE-MOUNT INSTALLATION

An outside mount is installed above or around the window opening.

  1. Mark the center of the window opening.

  2. Mark the center of the shade.

  3. Position the shade at the desired height and align the two center marks.

  4. Mark the location of each bracket.

  5. Use a level to confirm that both brackets are at the same height.

  6. Confirm that the shade will overlap the window opening as intended.

  7. Make sure the brackets will be attached to a secure mounting surface.

  8. Drill pilot holes when appropriate.

  9. Secure both brackets firmly using fasteners appropriate for the mounting surface.

  10. Install the shade into the brackets according to the supplied bracket design.

  11. Confirm that both ends are completely seated and locked.

  12. Install the valance, cassette, or fascia, if ordered.

CHAIN-OPERATED SHADES

If your shade uses a continuous-loop chain, the supplied chain-tension device must be securely installed.

The chain should remain taut and should not form a loose loop. Never remove, bypass, or leave the tension device unsecured.

Keep chains and cords away from children and pets. Move cribs, beds, furniture, and climbable objects away from window-covering controls.

CORDLESS SHADES

Lower and raise a cordless shade slowly using the center of the bottom rail. Pulling from one side can cause the fabric to roll unevenly.

Do not pull the shade below its intended stopping point.

MOTORIZED SHADES

Charge the motor before initial operation if the shade uses a rechargeable motor.

Follow the programming instructions supplied with the motor, remote control, wand, or smart-home bridge. Do not attempt to force the shade by hand unless the product instructions specifically allow manual operation.

Confirm the shade moves freely and does not contact handles, trim, furniture, or other obstructions.

TEST THE SHADE

After installation:

  1. Make sure every bracket and fastener is secure.

  2. Operate the shade slowly through one complete up-and-down cycle.

  3. Confirm that the fabric rolls evenly and does not rub against the brackets, trim, or valance.

  4. Confirm that the bottom rail remains level.

  5. Check that the shade stops at the intended upper and lower positions.

  6. Recheck all mounting screws after testing.

If the fabric begins moving noticeably to one side, stop operating the shade. Confirm that the brackets are level, aligned, and securely mounted. Do not continue operating a shade that is rubbing, binding, or rolling incorrectly.

INSTALLATION RESPONSIBILITY

Customers are responsible for selecting appropriate mounting locations, fasteners, and installation methods for their property.

Improper installation, unsuitable fasteners, an inadequate mounting surface, or damage caused during installation is not considered a manufacturing defect.
